Strategic Plan Feedback and Website

We are very pleased to announce the launch of Envisioning 2024, our strategic planning website.

The strategic planning process is designed to build upon the achievements of the past decade's strategic directions, and integrate our most effective current programs and initiatives with our elevated ambitions for USD's future. This process will incorporate periods for review, reflection, and dialogue across the institution.

Through this website, the Strategic Planning Steering Committee will be collecting and prioritizing your ideas until noon on February 5, 2016. At that time, the Committee will form several sub-committees that will focus on emerging strategic themes, culminating in a Vision Conference in the spring, where participants will work to synthesize findings into a draft strategic plan comprised of a mission-aligned vision statement, strategic goals and supporting priorities, and key considerations. Findings will be shared with our Board of Trustees at its April 2016 meeting. The Committee will then facilitate additional review and feedback with the university community before confirming a strategic plan and presenting its findings to the President. Our intent is to have a new vision statement, strategic goals and an implementation plan approved by the Board of Trustees at its September 2016 meeting.

The strategic plan we develop together will remain committed to the mission and core values our founders articulated, but it will also create a bold vision that positions USD at the forefront of higher education as a model for all Catholic institutions.

Your voice is essential to this collaborative process. We look forward to your active participation as you share your ideas to help shape the headlines in 2024 when we celebrate our 75th anniversary!

Technology Showcase

Kick off the semester with Technology Showcase on February 5 at 1pm in the Hahn UC Forums!

Please RSVP to opening keynote speaker over lunch at noon followed by the exhibit hall opening!

We have a great line up of Faculty Panel Presentations. We're encouraging faculty to learn from their peers to further enable their classes with engaging technology tools. It is inspiring to see professors who have been successful in harnessing technology to stimulate learning. (please see attached).

Faculty- come support your colleagues presentations and bring your classes (if you’d like to make a project by writing a report about an interesting technology).

Keynote Speaker Faculty Panel Presentations: you work with many of us throughout the year, this event is an opportunity for us to celebrate and highlight the great work faculty have done integrating technology into their teaching and research. Please come to support us, your colleagues and share ideas.

Check out the old/new technology and talk with our sponsors and get your prize book stamped for great prizes! We have 25 vendor partners to demo products in use at USD (in the classroom or online) along with first-time participants such as Dropbox, Double Robotics, 3D printer, video technologies, and IBM Watson who will explain the benefit of joining IBM Watson (a free offer to the university)

We want to hear from you- please help us in building a stronger collaboration so that we can be more effective in adopting relevant technologies leading to student retention, outcomes and success.

Jillian Payne, Graduate Assistant in the Center for Student Success

  • Experience in Academic Coaching, Out-of-State Student Support and Programming, Career Services, and Leadership Development for Undergraduate and Graduate Students

My student affairs passion is in academic support and helping students evaluate their strengths in future planning. At USD, I have discovered a desire to develop student leaders within my role as a graduate assistant and an instructor. A strength that helps me stand out is that I work well at quickly building rapport in appointments with students, and have also developed the ability to see the systems impacting the students I advise. I've seen this translated into my role as a Student Success Coach and as an advisor to the Out-of-State Student program in the Center for Student Success. I am very excited to bring my passion into a full-time position after graduation!
