Kognito: At Risk Training
Student Affairs has worked diligently to see that all student employees and professional stuff are trained in Suicide Prevention. With the new semester beginning, Student Wellness would like to ask that if there are any new student employees or professional staff on your team to prioritize the Kognito: At Risk training. Kognito is a 30-45 minute interactive training that simulates real conversations and interactions with virtual students. Participants learn to identify and begin discussions about situations such as anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and suicide. Most importantly, participants become more comfortable in learning how to make a referral to a campus resource. Complete instructions for accessing and completing Kognito can be found on the You are USD website. Thank you all for taking the time to help promote the health and well-being of our students.

Commencement Marshals Needed

We are writing to request your assistance with this year's undergraduate ceremonies. Commencement Marshals are tasked with getting the undergraduates into the arena, across the stage and out of the arena in an orderly manner. It is a little crazy, somewhat exhausting and a fun way to celebrate our graduating students. The commitment includes a one-hour training meeting on Thursday, May 19 at 11am and working the morning and/or afternoon ceremonies. In case you did not already have the date, May 22 is Commencement Day. The Arts and Sciences ceremony begins at 9am (arrive at 8:00am) and the Business and Engineering ceremony begins at 2pm (arrive at 1:00pm).

Please let Marie Minnick know if you have any questions or if you are able to assist (if so, which ceremony(ies) you can help with). It would be helpful to hear from you by March 11.

Student Affairs Night with USD Basketball

We are working on a "Student Affairs Night" at the USD Men’s Basketball game versus BYU on Thursday, February 18 at 8pm! More information is coming but we wanted you to save the date for you and your family. Besides the game, there will be fun activities and it provides us with a time to connect outside of our jobs.

You do not have to wait until February 18 to cheer on the USD Men’s team as they face University of Pacific tonight at 6pm.

You may also want to cheer on the 20-2 USD Women's team versus Santa Clara on Thursday, February 11 at 6pm.

Super Hero Leadership Training

The Super Hero Leadership Training will start up next week on Monday, February 8, from 4-5pm on the Roof of the SLP, room 524. Please spread the word to any super hero students out there wanting to engage in an interactive dialogue about leadership, super heroes and social justice this semester. Please feel free to share the attached flyer.

Second Year Graduate Student Spotlight

Each week we will be highlighting a different second year graduate assistant in an effort to help them network in the departmental and geographical areas they will be seeking a job in. Let’s help our outgoing graduate students make connections.

If you would like to be included in the second year graduate student spotlight, please email your information to Cynthia Avery!
