We are also seeking nominations for the St. Catherine's Medal for Student Achievement given by the Kappa Gamma Pi Catholic College Graduate Honor Society. This award is given to an undergraduate student (usually a sophomore) who represents the high ideals of a Catholic college or university and who is outstanding for leadership and service.

Please provide names of nominees with a brief nomination to Cynthia Avery by Wednesday, March 2. Nominees will be contacted to submit their resumes.

Career Development Center Trainings

As part of the Student Affairs Strategic Plan group focusing on Student Staff Training, a Career Development Committee has been put in place to plan career development workshops for student employees to support the Co-Curricular Learning Outcome: Being, Belonging, Becoming. We are seeking professional staff members as well as graduate assistants to collaborate with the Career Development Center's Student Ambassadors to become "Career Development Facilitators" for these workshops. All student employees will be required to attend one of the two workshops (based upon their interest). The two workshops offered this semester are as follows:

-Building My Dream Career - Self Assessment and Career Exploration
-The Student Worker Advantage - How to effectively articulate your skills to employers (resume writing and interview skills)

The commitment consists of a training on March 8 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. (location TBD) as well as participation in one or more of the workshops scheduled for:

Tuesday March 29: 12:30pm – 2pm
Thursday, March 31: 12:30-2pm
Saturday April 2: 2pm – 3:30pm
Tuesday April 5: 12:30pm – 2pm
Thursday, April 7: 12:30-2pm
Saturday April 9: 2pm – 3:30pm

California Peer Leadership Conference

Next Tuesday, March 1 is the deadline to register students for the California Peer Leadership Conference (as well as the deadline to submit a workshop proposal) hosted at UCSD on Friday, April 22. Last year they had over 100 students from 12+ higher education institutions throughout the state in attendance. They would like to see as many Toreros participate as possible!

ASACCU Best Practices for Mission Integration Award

We are pleased to announce that the call for submissions for the 5th Annual ASACCU Best Practices for Mission Integration Award is now open! 

ASACCU seeks to recognize Best Practices in student affairs area in relation to Catholic mission and identity.  The recipient of this year’s awards (2016) shall receive the following:

-Complimentary 2016 ASACCU Annual Conference registration to no more than two people involved in the award-winning best practice;
-Recognition at the ASACCU 2016 Annual Conference; and
-Presentation of the practice/program in a session at the 2016 ASACCU Annual Conference.

ASACCU Best Practice Awards will be submitted and judged within one of the following three categories:

-Residence Life, Housing, and related (e.g., student conduct and community standards, residence hall programming, learning communities, RA/staff training, etc.)
-Student Activities, Leadership, Orientation and related (e.g., student programming, leadership development, clubs and organizations, orientation and new student programs, etc.)
-Diversity and Inclusion, and related (e.g., multicultural programming, interfaith initiatives, sexual orientation programming, etc.)

The theme for the conference in 2016 is The Way I See It: Catholic higher education through the eyes of our students.  Submissions should relate to the conference theme in some way.
