Student Affairs Student Award Winners

Our incredible students were honored this past Tuesday during the annual Honors Convocation, which was held in the Shiley Theatre and presided over by President Harris! Please help us congratulate all of the Student Affairs Student Award winners for the 2015-2016 academic year, as well as the students who were recognized for the Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities publication. The recipients of the Student Affairs Student Awards will also be recognized at a breakfast in their honor during Commencement weekend.

Students First Campaign Update

We have one more week for the Students First Giving Campaign! At the last Students First meeting, we were notified that we are currently in 7th place with a 66.67% contribution rate. We also learned which departments in our area have a 100% contribution rate.

As an added incentive, Mariann Sanchez will be raffling a dinner for two to Super Cocina for anyone that joins the campaign starting today. Contributions can be as low as $5! The winner of the raffle will be announced next Friday.

Also, please note that the Victory Party is on Tuesday, May 10 from 4-5:30pm in the Degheri Alumni Courtyard and is only open to employees who have contributed to the giving campaign.

USD Community Picnic and Torero Cup Recruitment

The annual USD Community Picnic will be taking place on May 25 in Torero Stadium (please note the new location). If you have not RSVP'd to the picnic invitation that was sent by Human Resources this past week, you can do so by visiting this link.

In Loco Parentis is also beginning to recruit and train for the annual Torero Cup competition! As you may recall, we are the reigning champions and holders of the prestigious Torero Cup, after a devastating upset over Lyon's Den. We hope to continue this winning streak and earn our third victory this year! If you are interested in participating, please contact our team captains Mariann Sanchez and John Godfrey ( All skill levels are welcome! Practice times are listed below:

Gary Becker Retirement Celebration

Please remember to RSVP as soon as possible as we honor and celebrate the retirement of Gary Becker, Director of Campus Recreation. Gary has served the University of San Diego for over 38 years and is set to retire at the end of May.

We hope you can join us and wish Gary a fond farewell. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served!
